The Heart Behind Once Upon a Sleep
Inspired by my children, shaped by motherhood, and created for families like yours.
Hi, I’m Bailee!
I’m a mom to two beautiful kids, Delilah and Noah, and the person behind Once Upon a Sleep.
Being their mom is the most important part of who I am, and honestly, it’s what led me here.
Motherhood has been so many things I expected, and so many things I never could have prepared for. It’s taught me patience I didn’t know I had, made me question myself more times than I can count, and shown me just how much love and responsibility can exist in one little person.
And somewhere between raising my babies, learning their personalities, and figuring out what worked for our family, I found myself becoming genuinely interested in understanding children’s sleep.
One experience that really shaped the way I look at sleep was with my son, Noah.
For the first 15 months, I breastfed and co-slept with him. That was our normal. It was familiar, it was comforting, and for that chapter of our lives, it worked for us.
But eventually, I felt ready for a change.
I wanted Noah to feel comfortable sleeping in his own room, but I also wanted to approach that transition in a way that felt right for both of us. After spending so many nights together, it wasn’t something I wanted to rush into without understanding how to make it easier for him.
We started by changing our bedtime routine, creating consistency, and making adjustments to the way we approached sleep.
And after 15 months of sleeping beside me, it took just two nights for Noah to start sleeping in his own room.
I was genuinely amazed.
Not because I expected it to be impossible, but because something I had spent so much time thinking about turned out to be a much smoother transition than I’d imagined.
And it made me think about how many other parents might be in that same position.
Maybe they’ve been rocking their baby to sleep every night and don’t know how to make a change. Maybe they’re breastfeeding and aren’t sure how sleep will look when they’re ready to wean. Maybe their toddler has always slept beside them, and they’re wondering whether independent sleep is even possible.
Or maybe they’re perfectly happy with how things are right now, but want to know what their options are when they’re ready.
I want those parents to know that they have options, and they don’t have to navigate those changes alone.
I also want to be clear about something: I don’t regret breastfeeding or co-sleeping with Noah. Those were choices I made for our family, and I wouldn’t want another mother to feel like she needs to change something that’s working simply because someone tells her she should.
That’s something I carry with me in the way I approach sleep consulting.
I know how personal these decisions are. I know that sometimes what looks like a “bad habit” to someone else is actually a part of your day that you cherish. And I know that when you’re ready to make a change, you want someone who respects that.
That’s the kind of support I want Once Upon a Sleep to provide.
When you come to me, I don’t want you to feel like you need to explain or defend the way you’ve been parenting. I want to hear about your baby, what your nights look like, what’s been difficult, and what you wish could be different.
I want to know what matters to you.
Because helping a family with sleep isn’t just about wake windows, nap schedules, or bedtime routines. It’s about understanding the people behind those routines.
It’s about recognizing that there’s a tired parent on the other side of that conversation who loves their child and is simply trying to figure out the best way forward.
My experience as a mom is what makes this work so personal to me, and my education in pediatric sleep is what allows me to turn that passion into practical guidance for other families.
I started Once Upon a Sleep because I wanted to bring those two things together.
I want to offer personalized sleep plans, one-on-one support, and educational resources that help parents feel more confident in understanding their little ones. And as this business grows, I hope to continue expanding into other areas of parenting and early childhood support.
My dream is for Once Upon a Sleep to become somewhere families feel comfortable coming back to as their children grow, knowing they’ll be met with understanding, honest guidance, and support that respects their choices.
I don’t believe every baby needs to sleep through the night by a certain age. I don’t believe every family needs the same bedtime routine. And I certainly don’t believe that what worked for Noah will automatically work for every child I help.
But I do believe that understanding your child’s needs, having realistic expectations, and finding an approach that fits your family can make a meaningful difference.
And I would love to help you find that.
So whether you’re a first-time mom trying to make sense of newborn sleep, a parent who’s been surviving on broken sleep for months, or someone who’s simply ready for a change, I hope you feel welcome here.
You can ask questions. You can tell me what’s really happening at home. You can have preferences, worries, and boundaries. You can even tell me when something doesn’t feel right.
I want this to feel like we’re working together, because we are.
I’m not here to tell you how to be a mom. I’m here to support you in being the mom you already are, while helping your family find a little more rest along the way.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and the heart behind Once Upon a Sleep. It truly means a lot to have you here.
With love,
Bailee Atkins 🤍
